RMA Monitoring and Compliance Officer

To help us achieve this vision, our friendly Compliance, Inspection and Enforcement team are seeking an enthusiastic and driven individual as an RMA Monitoring and Compliance Officer. About the Role

As an RMA Monitoring and Compliance Officer, you will be at the forefront of ensuring compliance with the Resource Management Act (RMA), the District Plan, and resource consent conditions.
Your day-to-day work will include:

  • Investigating complaints and potential breaches of the RMA.
  • Carrying out monitoring inspections and reporting on compliance outcomes.
  • Supporting enforcement processes, including preparing evidence and appearing in hearings or court where required.
  • Providing education and guidance to the public, consent holders, and stakeholders on compliance matters.
  • Working collaboratively across Council to promote sustainable development and continuous improvement.

This role combines technical investigation, community engagement, and environmental stewardship - perfect for someone who enjoys variety, problem solving, and working in both the field and the office.

About You

You will bring:

  • A relevant qualification in Resource Management, Environmental Science, or Public Law / Local Government.
  • A solid understanding of the Resource Management Act and related legislation.
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills, with the ability to translate complex information clearly and accurately.
  • A professional, impartial approach to investigations and conflict resolution.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

Experience in a regulatory compliance or environmental monitoring role (2-5 years) will be highly regarded. A current NZ driver's licence is essential.
