We are seeking a professional, proactive Health & Safety Advisor to join our friendly Health and Safety Team. You will play a key role in identifying and managing health and safety risks, providing expert health and safety advice across Council, and work with our people in a way that promotes a positive safety culture.
Key responsibilities for this role include:
- Provide practical H&S advice and guidance to managers, employees, and Health & Safety Representatives, supporting the Health & Safety Committee and helping progress agreed objectives.
- Manage incident and hazard processes, assessing reports, completing or supporting thorough investigations, identifying corrective actions, and coordinating notifiable event requirements.
- Support organisational risk assurance by completing risk assessments, monitoring activities, reviewing controls, and providing clear insights on injury, absence, and wellbeing trends.
- Assist with rehabilitation and return-to-work process and ensuring accurate, timely reporting.
- Support the Health & Safety Committee, helping set objectives, providing practical H&S advice, and encouraging strong employee engagement.
- Strengthen H&S capability, delivering training, supporting contractor safety processes, and completing audits and inspections.
What you will bring:
- Strong ability to build, manage, and maintain positive working relationships across all levels of the organisation
- Proven expertise in applying current New Zealand health and safety legislation, codes of practice, guidelines, and standards
- Exceptional attention to detail, with a systematic and highly organised approach to work
- A collaborative mindset with excellent problem-solving skills
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of health and safety audit and accreditation processes
- Demonstrated experience supporting the delivery of H&S systems and programmes, including effective application of policies and processes, as well as robust hazard identification and reporting practices
