Team Leader - Engagement

Permanent Full-Time

We are looking for an experienced and people-focused Team Leader to empower our talented Engagement Team, foster a positive culture, and strengthen Council relationships across our community. This is an exciting opportunity to lead with purpose while making a real impact for our city.

The usual hours of work for this position are 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday - Friday with occasional evening and weekend work required to attend engagement events.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Lead, coach and motivate team members, promote employee engagement through constructive feedback, openness, and trust.
  • Lead the planning, coordination and delivery of engagement and consultation activities across Council.
  • Ensure engagement activities are aligned with statutory and organisational requirements and delivered to consistent standards with appropriate quality and legislative compliance.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with community groups, iwi, and key stakeholders, as well as with council employees who engage directly with these groups.
  • Develop and implement community activation and wellbeing initiatives, as agreed with Council leadership.

What you will bring:

  • A degree in social science, communications or a related field or demonstrated relevant sector experience
  • At least five years' experience in engagement, community development or working in community partnerships
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supervising a team
  • Experience delivering engagement and consultation programmes
  • A sound understanding of local government operations
  • Current full New Zealand driver's licence
