The Programming team are the driving force of activity for the Invercargill Public Library! Building on the successful programmes already offered at the Library, you will focus on the development and implementation of programmes and services that reflect the unique demographics of Invercargill's communities.
With a greater focus on research and post event evaluation, you will work collaboratively across all Library teams to design authentic, engaging, innovative programmes and events that activate the collections and fulfil our commitment to being a place of lifelong learning and fostering community wellbeing.
Key responsibilities for this position include:
- Working closely with subject matter experts, cultural leaders and community groups to assist with the development and delivery of authentic programmes.
- Collaborate with internal teams to create relevant and authentic programmes that activate the Library's collections.
- Engage and collaborate with community groups and libraries to share resources, learnings and foster programming capability in the sector.
- Design creative programmes using customer insights, industry trends and research that enhance the creative and cultural identities of Murihiku.
- Apply Te Tiriti principles to the design and delivery of community programmes, fostering inclusive and welcoming spaces for all members of the public.
What you will bring:
- A tertiary qualification in programming, curation or public outreach or equivalent relevant experience
- Experience working with vulnerable or underserved communities
- Knowledge of local cultural and social services, and community resources
- Excellent communication and community engagement skills
- Creativity and adaptability to develop innovative programs
- Experience in event planning, community engagement, or public programming

The Invercargill City Council is committed to the wellbeing and protection of children, the elderly and vulnerable adults. As a component of this role involves interaction with one or more of the above groups, as part of the assessment of candidates, we will require Police Vetting as per the Children's Act 2014 and a Pre-employment Alcohol and Drug Screening test to ensure we are providing a safe environment for our customers and members of the public.
